Dies und jenes vom Ende der Welt

Meine Fähre ist die allerletzte, die den Hafen der Südinsel verlassen wird. Jo und David haben mir einen Karton mir Gemüse und Obst fertig gemacht. Ich habe das Auto gerade noch einmal vollgetankt und dabei ein Pärchen aus Queenstown getroffen, die beide ihren Job verloren haben und die Miete nicht mehr bezahlen werden könnnen. Sie haben ihr Hab und Gut ins Auto gepackt und wollen eine der letzten Fähren nach Wellington erwischen, wo sie Familie haben. Sie haben aber kein Ticket. Hunderte von Menschen ohne Ticket wollen momentan auf die Nordinsel übersetzen und es herrscht angeblich absolute Anarchie am Terminal in Picton. Panische Menschen blockieren den Weg und das Fährpersonal und die Polizei können nichts dagegen tun. Es ist also immer noch nicht sicher, ob ich wirklich rüber kommen werde. Andererseits habe ich gehört, dass die Regierung nun eventuell noch bis Freitag mit der Alarmstufe 4 warten will, damit alle noch ihren Zielort erreichen können. In Zuge dessen würde dann auch Mino das Haus verlassen und zu seiner Familie nach Wellington reisen. Die Renovierungsarbeiten würden damit niedergelegt.

Ich werde nun also zu Pam und David reisen - wenn alles gut geht. Wenn nicht, drehe ich um und bleibe in Ward. Heute sind 40 neue bestätige Fälle hinzugekommen. Es ist nun sicher, dass es sich um eine Verbreitung innerhalb der Gesellschaft handelt und es nicht nur mehr Rückkehrer aus dem Ausland sind. Die großen Transitflughäfen wie Singapur und Dubai schließen nun wohl auch, sodass ein Zurückkommen nach Deutschland momentan auch nicht mehr möglich ist.

My ferry is supposedly the very last one to leave the harbour of the South Island as was announced yesterday. Jo and David packed a box with veges and fruits for me. I went to top up with fuel today and met a couple from Queenstown that has lost their jobs and will not be able to pay their rent. They packed everything they own in their car and are trying to catch one of the last ferries to Wellington where they have family. They don't have a ticket however. It's a big challenge. There are apparently hundreds of people from the South Island without tickets that are trying to get on the ferry and there is complete anarchy at the terminal in Picton. Panicking people are blocking the way and the staff and police can't really do anything about it. It is therefore still uncertain whether I am going to make it or not.

On the other hand, there is a discussion in the government about waiting with code 4 till Friday so that people can reach their destinations. In that case, Mino would pack up and leave to his family in Wellington and the renovation works would stop. I am therefore left with Pam and David. If things go wrong at the ferry terminal I can turn back and come back here. There are 40 new cases today in NZ. Amongst them are now definitely cases from community transmission. I have heard that the big transit airports like Singapore and Dubai are also shutting down. That rules out the possibility of getting back to Germany as well.
