Update

23März2020

--------------

It was announced today that New Zealand has gone into alert level 3 and will go into alert level 4, the highest one, on Wednesday afternoon. The number of cases increased from  66 to over 100 over night. The first cases were all traced back to travels abroad and were isolated, now, however, there seems to be a community transmission as well. Everybody has now two more days to travel to their desired destination, then lockdown will take place. Public domestic transport will be shut down on Wendesday afternoon.

I booked a ferry ticket back to the North Island a couple of days ago in case this would happen. Pam and David had offered to take me in to their house in Auckland. Now I am not sure the ferry will go. I booked it for Thursday evening. I am still waiting for a final update from the ferry company. I could leave my car here in Ward and take a flight to Auckland tomorrow or Wednesday early. I am not sure what to do really.

I can stay in Ward as well. Jo and David offered to have me stay as long as needed. It is beautiful here, we have plenty of great organic food, I'd have my own nice room and looooots of space to go for walks. It is just so extremely lonely here. Jo and David are nice people, but we don't really vibe. Also, there is nothing else to do for the next couple of months now that we have finished the hazelnut harvest. But I need to keep myself busy somehow.

Pam and David wouldn't have a job for me either and their house is much smaller, but at least we get along really well and would have a lot of fun together.

There's also the possibility to quarantine with Andrew and Mino. They are still renovating the house and I could help them, keep myself busy.

It is not easy to decide who to go into self-isolation with for several months when all of them are besically strangers to you. However, I am VERY thankful that I even have a choice and that the kiwis I've met are so welcoming and kind.

I hope all the other travellers here in New Zealand and all over the world are as lucky!

Thanks to those that already put some songs into my playlist. Please continue! It is not enough songs yet for a quarantine soundtrack.
